Here’s a novel idea for people always needing more storage, but running out of plugs and ports for their external hard drives this is the ideal solution for archiving your data onto economical hard drives. A great way to by-pass burning optical discs or buying dearer external drives (we all know internal ones are cheaper!).
It’s a SATA HDDD Multi Function Dock and a USB card reader (for almost every type of memory card out there), in addition to providing additional USB ports for memory stick devices.
The device is compatible with both PCs and Mac.
This particular vulnerability is what we call “local privilege escalation”. It enables a user of a system to escalate their rights to “root”, which allows full control over the system.
Thus, even if you are running as a regular user or in a guest account, exploiting this vulnerability allows you escalate your rights to run without restriction. In this case, the Apple Remote Desktop agent (ARDAgent) uses a technique called SUID to run things as root.
It’s a common programming technique on Unix systems, but one that often creates security problems. In this case, ARDAgent supports AppleScript, including the command to run other programs, which then run as root.
